Details of Ross University Interview

My interview today went very well..It lasted about 1 hour. I had a lot to say. Very few questions were asked. I'm wondering is that good? He had pages and pages of question but, I think a answered most of them within my answers. He stated that some interviews, he has to pull teeth and others the information flows freely. THe questions asked:1. Are you from Houston? 2. We talked about my many transcripts.3. We went over my MCAT scores. How did I study for MCAT? What was the most difficult part of the MCAT for me? 4. Have I lived outside of the US before?5. We went over my clinical, shadowing and research experience. What I gained from those experiences.6. What questions did I have: My main concern was the quality of education, providing the proper tools to compete in the US, and partnering with a reputable institution with strong US ties, My son adapting to the new environment: meeting friends, etc. Is it still required to take the NBME COMP before taking the USMLE? What retention support available, as far as improving study techniques, etc. Within my answers, I answered the questions:WHy do I want to become a doctor, Why Ross, WHy a doctor instead of a nurse, how I got to the decision to become a doctor, my oppositions and triumphs on this path, my family buy-in and support, why my years of experience has given me the strength and ability to complete tasks I start. I expressed my determination and I realize that as long as Ross provides me the tools needed to successfully pass the USMLE, it is up to me to compete effectively in the market place. I understand that 100%. So, the why I am a great candidate for admission, whether I get a degree from UofH or Cal State, it is up to me to do something with the degree and reach places I desire to go. It's a partnership. I also let him know, that Im aware that Ross is not on a vacation resort island. Im not concerned about shopping malls, etc. I realize the 16 month sacrifice on the island is not a lifetime. So, with that in mind Im focused and driven on the task in front of me; and that's to get the information need to move to the next level.

  7. hey,
My dream was always to become a doctor i am married with 2 kids coming to Ross next year.I was just wondering are there medical students who have families living there for 16 months or so.how much money do we need to keep for expenses upfront. How much does it cost for housing.Isnt it a big lifestyle change from U.S to dominica?
    thank you

  8. Yes, there are families living here, students as well as faculty As a matter of fact, Ross is building a brand new Ross Uni Prepatory school for the children due to the growing amount of families come here.

Cost of living varies..It all depends on what you are looking for and want to spend...They have apartments ranging from $300 up to $1800 US..which includes: water, cable, and internet..you pay electric and purchase propane gas for your stove...Food is very expensive here...But, I'm sure you will be fine...I think they recommend you bring at least 1 to 2 months savings...But, in reality..that's more than enough...

No worries, if you've made it this far...provision is already yours...ENjoy..Congratulations..

  9. This was very a very helpful post ( even 3-4 years later) I have my interview with St. George tomorrow. I was curious did your son stay with you during your full time on the island? My 13 year old daughter is my biggest concern I have moving to the island. The school, activities, being available enough to keep her safe and out of trouble.

It has been very challenging to find information about the community in St. George on the internet.

How did you do it? Also do you know if he Ross Prep School is up and running, that would be a definite benefit of applying to Ross.

I enjoy seeing your success. It is so helpful when you are drowning in your own sea of challenges.

    1. Congratulations on your interview...Ross Prep School was totally awesome...It is on campus and as a matter of fact they were building a whole new facility for the prep school...The education for the kids was 2nd to none..the one on one teaching was great..My son only had 4 other kids in his class...The school is really active and keeps the kids busy with activities..field trips, talent shows, etc...I was very pleased with the school...

Having our child with you will be a challenge. My son met other kids and their parents really became our extended family..One of my professor's son was the same age, same class..so, they took him deep sea fishing, swimming, etc...
